Light Up A Village

Energy: Light Up A Village Campaign

Clean, affordable and sustainable energy is critical for development. CITARD is working to reduce dependency on Kerosene and other dirty fuels for energy while replacing that with solar and other cleaner alternatives.

Goal: All Ugandans have access to safe, clean, and affordable energy.

Projects:

  • Solar ambassadors program (SolarDuuka)

We are building two solar shops in Tororo to provide the basic services to underserved off-grid rural communities. These shops are a one stop center for Solar sales and repairs, mobile phone charging, airtime, Mobile Money (E-Banking). They operate as social enterprises and will be run by a solar ambassador- the shop will create jobs as well as bring services closer to the people.

  • A light for Life

A light for life is a project that inspires ordinary people to donate a lamp to help families that are living in poverty and therefore cannot afford them. These lamps go a long way to improve the lives and security of these families while protecting the environment. The project was started in Colorado in 2015 by a group of wonderful people who wanted to make a change in the lives of poor Ugandans. A light for Life project works in partnership with Nokero (A Colorado based solar company).
